We live our lives on social media.
We frequently feel the need to share with our cyber families or friends the events of our lives, be they good or bad.
We post everything we feel that we need to share, which would include graduation day pictures, getting married, and our first moments of learning about our pregnancies.
We also share pictures of our new bundles of joy, their first steps and their first day in school with our cyber friends.
Some of my friends tell me that they share a lot of the pictures, videos and news because they want to archive some of their precious memories on their social media accounts in case they lose their handsets.
Advances in technology also allow us to share the location that we are at.
I then ask myself whether we are sharing so much on social media that we forget to consider the security risks this poses for us and our loved ones.
By doing this we are telling people our exact location, and where we dropped off our children, for example.
Sometimes we are not even aware that we are putting out so much on social media.
We cannot stop ourselves, because we want the world to know all about our beautiful moments.
But remember that whatever you put up on social media someone can screen-munch within seconds.
Let us say, for example, you are attending your child’s award ceremony at their school.
You are so happy and want everyone to know how intelligent your son is.
You check in at the school and upload it.
Then somebody who wants to hurt you picks up the location and targets your son.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that social media platforms must be avoided.
I mean, this is one of the platforms where some people met their life partners, and reunited with lost lovers and friends.
But please let’s also consider the danger that we might put our loved ones in.
