Playing to keep fit

Soccer supporters gathered at Umzumbe Soccer Ground on Sunday to give their support to the masters of soccer.

The soccer supporters from Umzumbe and Wright Park could not stay indoors on Sunday but spent the day watching the keep fit masters’ top three games.

According to Dumisani kaDlamini, RDP Masters’ team manager who is also the games’ organiser, the aim of the games was to encourage young and old to keep fit at all times.

He says he believes that if one lives a healthy life, one is likely to live longer.

kaDlamini adds that the games were also a way of giving support to the newly established teams in Umzumbe and Wright Park.

“Two teams have recently been established and need the support from other teams to encourage the players to stay focused in playing soccer,” says kaDlamini.

Eric Simelane from Umzumbe Masters says despite keeping fit, the games were also a form of entertainment. “Sport is the one activity that brings different generations together,” says Simelane.

The first game between Umzumbe Masters and Silver Lake Masters ended in a 2-0 score in favour of Umzumbe Masters.

RDP Masters played against Silver Lake Masters and RDP won by 3-0. The final game was between Umzumbe Masters and the RDP and ended in draw of 1-1. The game went to penalties to decide the champions and RDP won, 4-2, taking home a R1 000 prize.
