Man arrested with firearm and suspected stolen property in Springs

A man was arrested after police allegedly found a firearm and various suspected stolen items in his possession on Park Avenue.

A man was arrested on Park Avenue, Springs, for possession of a firearm and suspected stolen goods on June 27.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, local police received a tip-off about a man allegedly in possession of a firearm and stolen property.

“Officers responded to the identified location and found an individual fitting the description.

“He was searched, and police discovered one firearm with one magazine loaded with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession.

“The suspect alleged to be using the firearm for self-defence,” Zwane said.

Zwane adds that a further search led to the recovery of various suspected stolen items, including a laptop, gaming console, radio, amplifier, drilling machine, blue lights controllers, cameras and a WiFi router.

“The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation or proof of ownership for the recovered items,” she said.

He was arrested and detained at Springs SAPS, and will appear in court soon.
