Fatal drowning incident at pump station claims teen’s life

A 14-year-old boy drowned while allegedly playing with friends at a pump station in Holfontein.

A 14-year-old boy died after an alleged drowning incident at a pump station in Holfontein on June 28.

Springs police responded to the scene where the teen’s body was later recovered.

According to local SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, upon arrival, police established that the victim had allegedly been playing with his friends at a pump station when he drowned.

“The Gauteng Water Wing was summoned to the scene and successfully recovered the body,” she said.

Zwane said the body was subsequently handed over to Forensic Pathology Services for further processing.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” Zwane said.
