Elco Santos claim 2-0 victory over Chillie Boyz in Owl City Winter Tournament opener
Elco Santos secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Chillie Boyz in their opening Top 16 match at the Owl City Winter Tournament after making key second-half adjustments.
Tsakani – Elco Santos went head-to-head with Chillie Boyz during a heated game at the Owl City Winter Tournament 2026 on July 11.
The game kept every corner of the Plus Ground cheering for their favourite team. Chillie Boyz coach, Mpumelelo Sakwane, said their main mistakes were in the front during the first half.
He explained that his players failed to communicate efficiently, but he rates the first half as strong.
“We tried to rectify this big mistake in the second half,” explained Sakwane.
He cited that he’s not pleased with the amount of opportunities missed, saying they had potential to either equalise or win.
“After all, this is a game, and one team is bound to either win or lose. Playing badly has punishments, and those are the rules of the game,” he said.
The coach did not express any disappointment but rather explained the need for better preparation and practice.
Sakwane cited that his players just need to focus more on the game and communicate better.
As a result, the team lost 2-0 to Elco Santos. Sipho Sigasa, coach of the winning team, expressed joy for winning the game.
He highlighted that the start of the game was a mess, saying his players were disorganised.
“The players seemed very lost and were trying to find their feet. We lost balls, could not move towards the right channels, but tried to rectify all those mistakes in the second half,” he cited.
Sigasa mentioned that applying pressure in the front tightened the game.
“Gaining three points during the first game in the top 16 tournament is crucial because it is a huge boost,” he said.
