Tsakani duo Amawele Woshuni sets sights on national music success

Tsakani brothers Pollen and Collen Nkonyane say music has kept them away from crime and drugs as they prepare to release their debut album and expand their reach.

Tsakani – Twin brothers Pollen and Collen Nkonyane, popularly known as Amawele Woshuni, are determined to take their music from the streets of Tsakani to the national stage.

The duo performs under the stage names Mr Malayisha (Pollen) and Fuego (Collen). Pollen said their journey began long before they entered a recording studio.

“As children, we loved playing with words and doing freestyle rap. We were never competing against each other because we are brothers.

“We also enjoyed different dance styles, including pantsula, gumboot dancing and Kofifi dance,” he explained.

As they grew older, the brothers decided to focus on music, inspired by their father, who was also a musician.

“Our father inspired us to follow this path. Our friends understood our passion and started supporting us, which motivated us to continue,” Pollen added.

The brothers believe music kept them away from negative influences while growing up.

“Music gave us purpose. Instead of getting involved in drugs, alcohol or crime, we focused on recording songs, performing and giving people good music,” explained Collen.

They said they started taking music seriously while they were still in school, sharpening their skills through street battles.

“It was not easy because the competition was tough, but those experiences made us stronger and prepared us for the industry,” cited Collen.

Their musical influences include Sjava, Aubrey Qwana, Big Zulu and Black Diamond. They have already worked with producer, songwriter, and DJ Techtension and hope to collaborate with artists such as Kwesta, Nqobiyazo, Sjava, Black Diamond, Aubrey Qwana, and Cassper Nyovest in the future.

The duo recently released the singles Imali Ye’Ypoko and SkooN, which are available on major streaming platforms.

They have also released an EP titled Amawele Woshuni and say they are grateful for the support they have received from fans.

“We appreciate everyone who supports us. Fans can also expect exciting visuals for the songs we have already released,” said Collen.

Looking ahead, the brothers are preparing to release their debut album, Sgedlane, featuring Techtension Beatz.

The album will be released under their independent record company, Two Brothers Label, on November 20.

Before the album release, they plan to drop the single Phakelu Mthakathi – Izwe Ngizwe on September 26.

They are also working on an amapiano track titled Nazoke, which they hope will feature Toss, Mathandos, Jandas and Gift SA.

Amawele Woshuni are also planning a Johannesburg performance tour before officially launching the album.

They promise more collaborations and fresh music for their supporters. Beyond music, the twins hope to make a positive impact on young people.

“Our vision is to change how people see musicians and encourage communities to support young talent.

“Many young people give up because they do not receive support and end up turning to drugs.

“We want to create opportunities, build businesses and employ people because jobs are scarce,” mentioned Pollen.

“We believe everything happens at the right time. We are taking it step by step.”

They credit music for changing their lives.
