Lions Club Buddy Day event makes a mark once again

The Lions Club Buddy Day event was declared a huge success as the event saw an increase in the number of attendees.

Alberton Lions Club, along with a few other Lions clubs from Johannesburg and the West Rand, organised a fun morning out for mentally and physically challenged children and adults on April 27 at La Salle College, Discovery, in Roodepoort.

A Buddy Day is an annual event held by Lions Clubs where they invite about 150 guests and 150 seniors, able-bodied from local schools to be buddies for the day.

Each guest is paired with a buddy who guides them through the different fun games such as face painting, putt-putt, Donkey Darb, biscuit decorating, photo booth, Kim’s Games, knock-down bottle, and hoop activities.

This year’s event saw 565 attendees, an increase of 165 from the previous year’s event.

La Salle College, St Catherine’s Convent, Hyde Park High, and Hoërskool Roodepark were among the schools that supported this amazing and phenomenal event.

The event was also blessed by the presence of the Special Olympics organisation.

Alberton Lions Club passed gratitude to Silver Star Casino for donated bottled water and cold drinks for the event.
Best buddy of the day was awarded to Junior from La Salle College.

“Being at Buddy Day is one of the most humbling experiences and it reminds you again how blessed we are and that kindness and care towards others is what life is about. We think our small act of service is little but it means the world to them. Their smiles light up the world and that reward is what service is about,” said Sandra Human, Alberton Lions Club member.

The buddy guests and volunteers painted their hands as they put their hand prints on the Rhino as their way of showing support for the ‘Save a Rhino Awareness’ initiative.
