Alberton welcomed 12 babies on New Year’s Day

Alberton welcomed 12 new babies on the first day of 2020.

The first day of 2020 was not only a day for new beginnings but also for new life.

Twelve new babies were welcomed into the world on January 1 at the Netcare Clinton Maternity Ward.

The first baby boy of the new year was born at 2am in the morning.

Throughout the rest of the day he was joined by five more boys and six girls in the busy ward.

The RECORD spoke to the parents of little Hailey Samuel, who was the second baby, born at 7am.

“She came out with a bang,” said Hailey’s mother, Johnique Samuel.

“It’s our New Year’s blessing,” her father, Derin Samuel, added.

For the Botha family, the year 2019, however, ended with a bang.

At 11.50pm, on December 31, 2019, just 10 minutes before the New Year, Lé Ru Botha was born as the last baby in Alberton for 2019.

“It was so special because as it happened, the fireworks started going off around the hospital,” said the happy mother, Lezani Botha.

For the excited dad, Ruan Botha, despite the significance of the timing, he said the most important for him was that his son and wife were both safe and healthy.

Ruan and Lezani Botha became the proud parents of their second child, Lé Ru, just 10 minutes before Alberton welcomed 2020.
