Police statement: Shots fired at Deep in the Woods festival

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Dlamini, has issued a statement in connection with the shooting at a music festival that took place in Alberton this weekend.

ALBERTON – Police in Alberton are investigating three cases of attempted murder following a shooting incident at a the Deep in the Woods festival on the Meyers Farm.

The incident took place on October 4 after 16:00. Three people including the suspect have been described as being in a critical condition in the hospital.

A 9mm pistol has been seized.

Allegedly two men had an argument at the festival. One of them pulled out a pistol and started shooting at the other.
In the process three  people were wounded, two of which were bystanders.

A member of public, alleged to be a police reservist, attended the festival. He also fired a shot at the suspect. The suspect was wounded and then disarmed.

The victims were immediately taken to the hospital.

A female victim was treated and discharged.

Three others including the suspect were seriously wounded and are described as critical.

The suspect was immediately put under police guard as he will be facing three cases of attempted murder.

The motive for the argument is still unknown.
