Ten pitbulls seriously injure local boy

I tried to put back the skin, fat and flesh that was dangling off my body

A BOY from Alberton is recovering in the Netcare Union Hospital after he was badly mauled by 10 pit bulls.

On September 8, Luke Greybe (13) was visiting his uncle at his plot in Walkerville when the incident occurred.

“We got a visitor and when he was ready to leave, I went to let him out and my uncle’s girlfriend said she would lock the dogs up. On my way back, I saw the dogs, opened the gate and walked in,” recalls Luke.

“One of the dogs jumped up and I told him to get down, then he jumped on me again and pinned me down on the ground, another one bit my arm and then the eight others stormed in and started biting and ripping my flesh,” adds Luke about his harrowing ordeal.

Luke says he was screaming for what felt like an eternity until his “aunt” came out and shouted at them. When he was free, he ran into the house and went to the bathroom.

“My uncle’s girlfriend ran a bath and poured Dettol in and I got in, seeing the bathwater turn red. I felt so cold. I tried to put back the skin, fat and flesh that was dangling off my body. I did everything I could think not to fall asleep because I kept dozing off due to blood loss and shock,” says Luke.

Luke’s mom, Althea, arrived and rushed him to hospital.

Luke sustained nerve damage, severed tendons, a broken arm (in three places) and a multitude of puncture wounds and lacerations.

MAULED: One of Luke’s gruesome wounds.

The young man already had an emergency operation due to infection and more to come, including several skin grafts and plates and screws to hold his shattered arm together.

“The medical costs are astronomical and just keep piling up,” says Luke’s distraught mother.

The family did not want to comment further and stated they will handle the matter internally as a family.

If anyone would like to help Luke heal and relieve some of the financial pressure, any and all donations are welcome and can be paid directly into the hospital’s bank account.
