On hold, yeah right

An Alberton resident's call was picked up but not answered by the Ekurhuleni call centre due to the staff member seemingly being in another conversation.

On July 8, Alberton resident Stuart Coetzee had an infuriating experience trying to reach the Ekurhuleni call centre.
Coetzee and his wife attempted to call the centre at 9.26pm and listened to the pre-recorded message for around 20 minutes before the handset was suddenly picked up.

Shockingly, there was no other person on the other side of the line. The only sound that could be heard was a lady speaking loudly and laughing in another conversation.

Coetzee recorded the phone call which lasted about eight minutes in total without any response from the person on the other side.

Dejected, they eventually decided to put the phone down. They made a second call after putting down which was finally answered after 19 minutes.

The residents feel extremely frustrated with the way the call was handled, feeling that the person on the other side of the call was busy with a private call which led to them not being able to reach the call centre.

The RECORD asked the City of Ekurhuleni for comment on what transpired on the night of the call and why the resident in question was not helped when the phone was picked up.

No comment has yet been received at the time of printing.
