Thief arrested in South Crest

A pickaxe head was found in his possession.

In the early hours of August 10, the control room of Special Operations Group (SOG) received a complaint about two suspicious men walking down Eeuwfees Street in South Crest.

Response units were dispatched and on arrival, the officer spotted the suspects where they were trying to hide from him. He managed to detain one of the suspects while the other managed to escape by jumping over one of the properties’ fences.

A pickaxe head was found in his possession and according to Du Toit Lambrechts (CEO of SOG) that is normally used to lift gates or to break security gates.

“The suspect was placed under arrest and then admitted to being in the area to steal gate motors. “South Crest has been plagued by the theft of gate motors and outside beams over the last months, with three stolen on August 7 alone. Suspects have also been stealing beams,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to Alberton SAPS.
