From January 8, the Alberton Home Affairs office suspended applications for the smart ID cards and green ID books for re-issue. First issues for learners will still be processed.

Temporary identity certificates will still be issued and the collection of IDs will still take place.
The following services will continue as normal:
• Registration of births
• Re-issue of birth certificates
• Late registration of birth by appointment
• Marriage services
• Death certificates
• Passports only for people involved in the cross-border transport of essential goods and medicines.
No date for the continuation of normal operations has yet been given.
