On June 3, EMPD officers stopped a blue Mercedes-Benz hatchback with two occupants on JG Strydom Road between Delphinium and Hennie Alberts streets for clocking 77km/h in a 60km/h zone.
As officers were issuing a R600 speeding fine to the female driver, the male passenger interfered and instructed the officers not to issue the ticket.
The driver then sped off as the officers attempted to arrest the passenger for interference.
She left her driver’s licence with the officers. A few minutes later, she returned and indicated she left the passenger at the nearest medical centre as he was not feeling well.
The driver was arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice.
On June 4, officers monitoring Swartkoppies Road between Vermooten and Hennie Alberts streets pulled over a silver Mercedes-Benz SUV, which clocked at 105km/h on a 70km/h road.
The driver, the speeding was because of an emergency, was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving.
Both offenders were detained at Brackendowns Police Station and are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
