Silwerkroon pensioner without water for two months
Pensioner Glynis Elsley has been without a water supply for at least two months at her Silwerkroon flat after her geyser burst.
Although water is a basic need, it has been two months that Glynis Elsley (68) has been without water supply in her flat.
Elsey explained she had no choice but to close her water supply as water flooded her entire flat due to a burst geyser. She also said the leak from the geyser has since worsened.
As a result, the senior citizen has been paying her neighbour R50 weekly to take a bath in her flat. She also uses empty bottles to store water for cooking, washing dishes and flushing her toilet.
According to Elsley, it will cost at least R8 200 to have her geyser fixed.
“In the evening of July 7, there was water on my kitchen floor. Luckily, it didn’t go further. I decided to turn off the tap from my bathroom that supplies water to my flat after I realised the geyser had burst. Whenever I turn on the tap supplying my flat, the geyser starts leaking,” she said.
She told the RECORD it is difficult to collect water from her neighbours as she has arthritis, which limits her movements.
“I have problems with my spine and the doctor advised that I should not pick up heavy things. But I have to pick up these heavy bottles every day,” said Elsley.
“On August 18, I decided to report this to the City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) official and she said there wasn’t any money and no contractors to look into this.”
When approached, a CoE official said: “My team was not aware of the issue; however, they will go and investigate.
There is no documentation and report that this was reported. We will give feedback in due course.
