Ward 38 encouraged to elected ward committee members
Ward 38, service delivery, committee members, Maifala-Masebe
Councillor Malcolm Maifala-Masebe encourages residents in Ward 38 to make a meaningful service delivery difference by taking part in the election of ward committee members.
With ward committee nominations opening on March 1, residents have an opportunity to form part of a team that will help the ward councillor with ensuring quality service delivery becomes a reality.
Ward committees serve as an advisory body, a representative structure, and an independent apolitical committee of the community.
The committee, according to Maifala-Masebe, must be impartial and perform its function without fear, favour, or prejudice.
“It is in the best of the community that the ward committee must coordinate the interests of the ward sectors and recommend any matter that affects the ward to the municipal council through the ward councillor,” he said.
He said a ward committee must also participate in and monitor the drafting of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget processes and deliverables.
“The team should also assist the ward councillor in resolving matters that affect the ward and must adhere and oblige to processes and procedures set by the council.
“Residents who wish to be part of the ward committee should make sure that they contact the ward councillor to make sure they fully understand the roles of the ward committee in their ward,” Maifala-Masebe said.
For more information regarding the nomination process, residents are encouraged to visit the Legislature office at the Alberton Civic Centre on the third floor.
