Alberton Primary receives paving after years of waiting

The City of Ekurhuleni roads and stormwater department has heeded to an issue reported to having gone on for at least six years.

The visit of Ward 106 Clr Tim Denny, MP Khume Ramulifho and Ward 106 committee member Nina McFarlane to Alberton Primary has proved to be a major success.

Following the team’s inspection at the school, the City of Ekurhuleni roads department has heeded a desperate call to pave the sidewalk outside Alberton Primary School.

The paving is to bring relief to learners and parents using the narrow single-lane road when dropping off and collecting children from the school.

The project, spearheaded by the roads department, began a week ago and is projected to be finalised on July 1.

According to Denny, this has highlighted a swift reaction of the roads and stormwater department.

“Having brought this to their attention after a visit from DA Gauteng shadow MEC for Education, Khume Ramulifho within a few weeks they have already begun paving. This has been an issue for six years, but with the collaboration of the department we managed to get it done following our visit,” he said.

The councillor said community members and the school are extremely grateful as they have been waiting for years.

“The next challenge is rewiring and re-electrification the street lights on that road as there has been vandalism over the past six years. However, the energy department has indicated they will, as soon as possible, start rectifying the whole street,” said Denny.

Denny said a challenge is children waiting alone later in the evening with the possible risk of kidnapping and harm.
