Councillor pleased with city’s trees planting at La Rochelle Primary

The maintenance of these trees will instil sense of ownership to the learners.

September 1 is celebrated in South Africa in various forms such as braaing, dressing up or opening government swimming pools.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame regards it as a new season and with a new season comes new beginnings, that is why they planted trees at La Rochelle Primary School.

“Out with winter and in with summer. This year Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo took the initiative to choose La Rochelle Primary School as their project to plant 30 trees.

“Every class was given a tree to plant. It will be the learners’ responsibility to make sure that their trees are watered, pruned and maintained, and this will give them a sense of ownership and responsibility.

“The principal, Jones Sehoana, and I were honoured to plant our own tree. With this task comes an attitude that uplifts and makes everything seem so much better. When the warm weather rolls in and becomes more reliable, flowers start to bloom and the urge to start over kicks in.

“I would like to thank Ipeleng Dube and her team, the educators and the learners for making this day a success,” she said.
