Solar panels for Johannesburg SPCA

Many people believe solar panels are only for the wealthy, but for the Johannesburg SPCA, they are an absolute necessity because one missed call could mean the end of the world for an animal in distress.
Public relations officer Liana Marx said load-shedding affected everyone, including animals. When Eskom flipped the switch, almost everything electronic, including phones, went dark.
“Landlines go out of service, and towers lose signal. Generators appeared to be the way to go until the government decided to kill us with fuel prices. Can you imagine how much it costs an NPO to run a generator every four hours? We cannot do this financially.
“To put it simply, without power, the Johannesburg SPCA cannot receive phone calls, resulting in a rescue not being reported, potentially leading to the animal’s death. We cannot receive communication about run-over or abused animals or in need of rescue without power, which could result in the animal dying. Our theatre cannot operate without power, which could result in the death of an animal on the table.
“Our refrigerators break down, wasting thousands of rands worth of vaccines and medication. Many quotes adding up to enormous sums were submitted. Our computers, phones, refrigerators for the shots, and server, which keep almost everything up and running, are all we really need to keep things running.
However, we simply do not have the money to cover the cost of solar. Please donate R10 to this project. We beg you from the bottom of our hearts. For donations, we are happy to offer a section 18A tax certificate. Animals need all of our assistance if we want to save as many as possible,” said Marx.
