Ekurhuleni residents encouraged to register for free online course

To up-skill local youth and residents, the City of Ekurhuleni encourages its residents to apply for a free online course for duration of three months.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is offering a range of free online courses designed to increase knowledge in entrepreneurship and business endeavours to unemployed residents and the youth.

Applications for the free online course are open and will close on January 26.

The training is offered by the global technology business computer information systems business, SISCO, in collaboration with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, the National Library of South Africa, and the CoE.

The course will be offered as a two-part series. The first segment is discovering entrepreneurship and creating compelling reports, which sets the foundation for the second part, launching a business venture and engaging stakeholders for success.

The duration of the series of courses is three months.

The city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, said to guarantee that nobody gets left behind, candidates who have successfully registered can finish these free online courses at any of the 47 libraries in the city, all of which provide free Wi-Fi and computer access.

“However, those with access to their own devices can access the relevant cites from anywhere,” Dlamini explained.

He recommended that applicants fill out every area on the application and upload copies of their ID, proof of residency, and highest degree (national senior certificate or any other degree).

To be eligible, candidates must fulfil these requirements:
• Candidates have to live in the City of Ekurhuleni.
• Candidates must have Grade 12.
• Applicants must not have a formal business or related qualification.
• Candidates must be dedicated to finishing the courses, and if they pass the current one, they will have the chance to move to the subsequent set of courses.

While applications are welcome from all Ekurhuleni citizens, youth without jobs will be given priority if a course has a limited number of spots.
