Emergency services on high alert
In case of life-threatening emergencies experienced around the CoE, 011 458 0911 is the emergency telephone number to dial such that relevant teams to be dispatched for interventions.
With heavy downpours predicted for this week into mid-week next week, the City of Ekurhuleni DEMSS aquatic, rescue, firefighters and disaster management teams remain on high alert.
This comes as high traffic volumes are also expected on our roads as holidaymakers return back to their economic activities in the city.
Residents are urged to be vigilant as persistent heavy and disruptive rains are expected over the weekend into the mid-week.
Low-lying areas and bridges, open water streams, rivers and dams might flood. This will negatively affect structures built on the flood lines.
Motorists and pedestrians are called to remain extra vigilant on the roads during these adverse weather conditions to prevent loss of lives due to drownings and vehicle accidents.
During this kind of weather please:
• Avoid crossing flooded bridges if the road surface is covered by flood water.
• Avoid low-lying bridges and roads, use alternative routes.
• Avoid crossing swollen water streams and rivers.
• Refrain from driving on bridges or roads in low-lying areas particularly those vulnerable to flooding.
• Seek and move to higher ground if rising water levels are noticed.
• Motorists should keep a good following distance.
• Vehicles should be roadworthy for different kinds of weather conditions.
