WATCH: Truckload fell off on Alberton’s Voortrekker Road, near the N12 Southern Bypass

A 58-year-old man who was driving the truck was rushed to Bertha Gxowa Hospital with minor injuries, while the passenger sustained no injuries.

A truck transporting apples, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables lost its load on the morning of August 19 on Alberton’s Voortrekker Road, near the N12 Southern Bypass.

The incident left fruit and vegetables scattered across the road as passers-by gathered around the scene.

According to the EMPD, the 58-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bertha Gxowa Hospital for treatment. The 35-year-old passenger who was travelling in the truck was unharmed.

“It was still unclear what led to the truck’s load falling out,” the EMPD said.

The case was set to be reported to Alberton SAPS after the road had been cleared.

While the scene was being attended to, EMPD officers assisted with reloading the truck with the goods that had fallen out.
