WATCH: Ekurhuleni’s back-to-school campaign shines a light on Eden Park schools

Eden Park’s ward councillor alongside senior municipal and provincial government officials visited two primary schools in the community.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) back-to-school campaign was taken to two primary schools in Eden Park. Eden Park Primary and Stoneridge Primary schools were visited by government and community leaders.

Eden Park’s ward councillor Dino Peterson, acting CoE mayor Jongizizwe Dlabathi and Gauteng Environmental MEC Shyla Peters took it upon themselves to visit pupils on their first day of school.

The campaign is aimed at monitoring schools’ readiness for the 2025 academic year, engaging with school management on challenges they come across, and addressing learners on the importance of education. Peterson made the opening remarks: “Good morning everyone, I am Alderman Dino Peterson, the Ward 57 councillor in Eden Park.

“I would like to acknowledge MEC Shyla Peters, acting mayor Jongizizwe Dlabathi, chief directors, district directors and all senior officials, supporting staff members, principals, SGB members, law enforcement officers and everyone present here today.

“I want to also acknowledge all these patriotic learners for the beautiful rendition of South Africa’s national anthem. This will teach them to look after our country, to look after the environment, our schools and infrastructure.

“Ultimately, it is them who will benefit from all of these. We also want to encourage these learners to look forward to this year, we want them to pass and eventually move on to high school,” added Peterson.

This is an intergovernmental campaign that sees officials from national, provincial, and local governments come together to visit public schools to ensure that pupils and teaching staff feel supported by publicly elected representatives.

“Here in Eden Park, I can safely say that the schools we visited look ready and they are looking forward to this year and improving their performance,” said Dlabathi.
