Alberton SAPS uncover illegal mining operation

Members of Alberton SAPS need your help to find suspects involved in the scourge of illegal mining after making a bust of a illegal mining operation.

Colonel Olven Letloenyane, Alberton SAPS station commander, led an illegal mining operation with members from Ekurhuleni district wardens and other stakeholders on December 11 in Roodekop.

In the scheduled session, they searched a suspicious house where they recovered large quantities of copper cables.

Along with the copper cables, the house, situated at an informal settlement, had generators and makeshift equipment suspected to be used by the illegal miners.

Captain Manare Ramotshela of Alberton SAPS said the team confiscated the recovered items.

“Alberton SAPS is appealing to the community to supply information that can assist in the arrest of whoever is committing these crimes. Alberton SAPS is assuring the community that their members are out and will ensure that the criminals get arrested,” he said.

Letloenyane commended their efforts in addressing the scourge of illegal mining.
