Operation Shanela continues to yield positive results in Gauteng
Over 1100 individuals were arrested in Gauteng during Operation Shanela which was held by various law enforcement agencies over the past weekend.
Operation Shanela continues to sweep clean the streets of Gauteng as law enforcement agencies arrested more than 1 100 suspects for various crimes throughout the province.
The five districts of the province all participated in the multidisciplinary operation at the same time. It involved various law enforcement agencies, including the Community Police Forum, Department of Traffic, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Community Safety, Crime Prevention Wardens, Metro Police, and private security companies.

The actions conducted include roadblocks, stop and searches, liquor and second-hand goods compliance inspections, vehicle check points and patrols.

Twenty unlawful liquor stores were shut down during the operation, and a sizable amount of alcohol was also seized. Among the 1 100 suspects arrested, 910 were wanted suspects arrested by the detectives across the province during their tracing of wanted suspects operation.

After paying penalties, a few of the detained suspects were set free and the remaining ones were scheduled to appear in court.
Over 150 suspects were from the greater Alberton community.
