Siyafunda ECD career day sparks big dreams for young learners

Young learners in Palm Ridge recently explored diverse career paths through hands-on activities, a doctor’s room tour, and interactive virtual reality experiences.

Young learners were introduced to various professions and inspired to think about their future careers during a career day hosted by Siyafunda ECD and Champions Day Care, in collaboration with Palm Ridge Library, on October 22.

The programme took place at the Siyafunda Community Technology Centre and gave children an opportunity to interact with professionals from various fields, learn about their daily responsibilities and explore career-related books.

The initiative aimed to broaden learners’ understanding of the world of work while encouraging them to develop interests and aspirations from an early age.

Professionals share their skills

The organisers welcomed guest speakers Sergeant Mitta Badi and Mpho Sejane from Eden Park SAPS, Masheane Masheane from the Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), librarian Roshnee Naidoo, attorney Shafeeqa Patel and Tayyibah Lambart from Siyafunda ECD.

The professionals spoke to the learners about their respective careers, offering them an opportunity to learn directly from people working in different fields.

The programme also included a tour of a doctor’s surgery, allowing the children to gain insight into the medical profession.

Interactive learning

Learners were further introduced to virtual reality through an interactive display combining cooking and literacy. The activity offered an engaging learning experience, particularly for children who expressed an interest in becoming chefs.

Career days provide learners with practical exposure to professions beyond what they encounter in the classroom.

By engaging with working professionals and exploring different career-related resources, children can begin connecting their learning experiences to real-world opportunities.

Through the collaboration, Siyafunda ECD, Champions Day Care and Palm Ridge Library created a platform for young learners to discover different career possibilities, ask questions and begin imagining what their futures could hold.
