Bidding a final farewell to the late Klaas

The unexpected departure of Klaas Mmapulane has created an irreplaceable void, affecting not only the Alberton SPCA but also deeply impacting those who had the privilege of knowing him.

The Alberton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the local community are grieving the sudden loss of Klaas Mmapulane (63), a devoted and long-serving member of the organisation.

He passed away due to natural causes on April 8. His funeral was in Limpopo on April 15.

Having dedicated 35 years of his life to the welfare of animals, Klaas was not only a respected colleague but also a beloved husband, father of five, grandfather of five, and one of 12 siblings.

His best friend and colleague, Joseph Mahlangu, who had the privilege of knowing him for the last 36 years and working alongside Klaas for the past 26 years, describes him as a family man and his closest friend.

Joseph Mahlangu holds dear the memories shared with his friend and will forever treasure them in his heart.

He highlighted the immense impact Klaas had on his life and the lives of countless others.

Klaas’ journey with the Alberton SPCA began more than three decades years ago when he joined the organisation as a young and passionate advocate for animal welfare.

Over the years, he became a well-known figure in the community, renowned for his unwavering dedication and compassion towards animals in need. His commitment and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the local community.

Joseph, with a heavy heart, reminisces about the times they spent together.

“Klaas was not only my colleague; he was my family and my best friend. We shared a deep passion for animal welfare, and together, we worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the animals entrusted to our care.”

“Beyond our shared mission, we enjoyed simple pleasures like watching soccer matches, especially cheering for our favourite team, Kaizer Chiefs, and cooking together. Those moments, filled with laughter and camaraderie, hold a special place in my heart.”

Joseph, still mourning the loss of his friend, initially hesitated when asked to speak about Klaas.

“When I was approached to do this interview about Klaas two months ago, shortly after his passing, I was overwhelmed with grief, and I still am,” Joseph admitted.

“However, I realise the importance of keeping his memory alive and honouring him for the incredible person he was. He touched so many lives, and it is only fitting that his legacy continues to inspire others.

“His immense love for animals was the driving force behind his dedication to the Alberton SPCA.

“He was instrumental in rescuing and rehabilitating countless animals, providing them with a second chance at life. His gentle nature and ability to connect with animals and people left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.”

The news of Klaas’ passing sent shockwaves through the community, and an outpouring of condolences flooded in from far and wide. Many shared stories of how he impacted their lives, describing him as a compassionate and selfless individual.

“His sudden departure has left a void that will be difficult to fill, not only within the Alberton SPCA but also in the hearts of those who knew him.”
