PICUP Alberton teams up with SCRA to enhance the Alberton entrance
Together with the South Crest Residents Association (SCRA), PICUP Alberton will be cleaning and beautifying a 1.5 km piece of Voortrekker Road on June 24 at 08:00, and the meeting point is at Paul Kruger Road, South Crest [at the old SPAR].
Project Improvement Clean-up (PICUP) Alberton and the South Crest Residents Association (SCRA) are teaming up to clean up one of the biggest entrances to Alberton – Voortrekker Road.
PICUP Alberton is a non-profit entity whose mission is to clean Alberton through community-based projects.
Joeleen Smit, the co-founder of PICUP, said they want to ‘take hands and clean up Alberton’.
“Eventually, we hope to bring the entire Alberton community together through our upliftment projects and by so doing, help Alberton to be the great, clean and well-functioning town it used to be.”

SCRA has also taken ownership of their suburb and is responsible for fixing up potholes in South Crest, disposing of illegal adverts, maintaining the Vlei Street park, as well as regular litter picking.
Smit said they are the best example of what a united community can do.
“The starting point of this project will be at the Alberton entrance statue on Paul Kruger Road and will stretch all the way down to the intersection of Voortrekker Road and Ring Road East. This project will cost PICUP Alberton and the SCRA about R4 000 in labour alone,” she explained.

She said this will be one of their biggest projects to date and they plan to make it a success.
PICUP Alberton and the SCRA are appealing to the community for donations to ensure that they are able to continue these community upliftment projects.
“If you are a resident or business owner and feel tired of the state of neglect in our town, now is your chance to be a part of saving our town. Contact us to ask how you can help or get involved. Contact PICUP Alberton on 061 547 3303 and SCRA on 076 040 2133,” she said.
