LOTS Ministry unites Alberton community to combat youth substance abuse
LOTS Ministry in Alberton is calling on the community to come together to develop a comprehensive and sustainable solution to address the growing issue of drug abuse in the area.
The Breakthrough event, organised by LOTS (Life On The Street), brought joy, inspiration, and empowerment to Alberton’s underprivileged youth.
The special occasion started with uplifting scriptures shared by De Wet de Kock and his wife Yvette.
The event featured motivational speakers, including Phumza Petse from SAPS, Nonhlanhla Majuvu from SANCA, and Lerato Hlati from Child Welfare.
These women encouraged the young attendees to lead healthy, drug-free lives and make positive choices.
The children were treated to a screening of the children’s edition of the Jesus film, which captivated their attention.
A delicious lunch of hotdogs and refreshments, sponsored by Michelle Uytenbogaardt and her team and Food Lover’s Market in the Mall at Newmarket, was served.
The afternoon was filled with fun and games, courtesy of the team from Ekklesia Family Church. The children enjoyed a lively soccer match, and the volunteers ensured everyone had an unforgettable experience.
Addressing youth substance abuse: A call to action
Recent observations by Laetitia de Kock during LOTS Ministry’s Thursday night outreaches have raised concerns about the growing number of children attending the gatherings who appear to be under the influence of drugs.

This disturbing trend has underscored the need for a collaborative approach to addressing substance abuse among youth.
LOTS Ministry’s mission focuses on providing help, counselling, and support to individuals living on the streets, many of them struggle with addiction and are marginalised by society.
While the organisation offers a ministry of hope and restoration to this vulnerable population, recent observations have highlighted the importance of preventative measures, particularly for children.
LOTS Ministry recognises that addressing youth substance abuse requires specialised skills and expertise, which falls outside their core mission.
Thank you
LOTS thanks Michelle Uytenbogaardt, her team, Food Lover’s Market, and every volunteer who contributed to the event’s success.

They also thanked Laetitia De Kock for her exceptional leadership and Yvette De Kock and De Wet De Kock for their inspiring words.
The event was a testament to the power of community and the impact that can be made when people come together to support a worthy cause.
The organisation looks forward to continuing its mission to empower and uplift the underprivileged youth of Alberton.
LOTS Ministry hopes to collaborate with other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive and sustainable solution to this pressing problem.
