Ekurhuleni wants to help businesses operating on its properties do so legally

Businesses that entered municipal space without proper approval before December 2020 will get assisted with the registration process, zoning and health and safety.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is calling on businesses operating on its properties and spaces to do so legally.

Some businesses struggle to register to operate on CoE land. Good news is that a campaign is underway to speed up registrations.

The campaign is dubbed Qondis’ Ishishini Lakho (fix your business). If your business qualifies to operate within this space, property owners will be assisted with compliance and receive a lease agreement, and the business will be regulated.

Property owners will gain essential information to help ensure their businesses comply with community regulations.

CoE says it is important for businesses to adhere to the by-laws. This initiative seeks to support businesses by providing specific forms for accreditation and compliance.

MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi, said: “Businesses must come forward because one of the by-law requirements for business owners wishing to operate as hawkers, for example, is to apply for and obtain a license.”

Businesses that entered municipal space without proper approval before December 2020 will get assisted with the registration process, zoning and health and safety, building control and compliance, and a certificate of acceptability. Businesses are encouraged to visit their nearest CCC for assistance.
