Festive season safety inspections carried out by EMPD

EMPD have a zero tolerance approach to drunken driving this December.

The EMPD carried out roadblocks across the south of Johannesburg during the past long weekend, from December 13 to 15.

During the roadblock, vehicles were checked to ensure they are roadworthy. The roadblock also aimed to to crack down on drinking and driving. The initiative is to ensure road users remain safe over the festive period.

MMC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi spoke about the importance of keeping roads safe this December.

“As the December period gets into full swing, many people will be traveling and the roads in Johannesburg will be extremely busy. Road safety officials need to make sure vehicles as well as drivers are in good condition to travel. Vehicles need to be up to standard especially for long distance driving. Another pertinent issue will be drunken driving, which will not be tolerated as the EMPD have a zero tolerance approach,” said Nkosi.
