The special farewell at Alberton Dam brought together colleagues, commanders, and family to honour his legacy.
Alberton SAPS held a farewell at Alberton Dam to honour Captain Samson Morris Hlabangwane, who concluded 37 years of dedicated service in the South African Police Service.
Hosted on July 4, the event brought together members from Alberton, Actonville, Tokoza, and Primrose SAPS, including detective and support commanders.

Station commander Colonel Olven Letloenyane praised the captain’s leadership and commitment over the years.

“From the day I met him, he made our working journey simple and worthy,” he said. “When he was appointed Acting Vispol Commander, he never looked back; he excelled. Even when we disagreed, he stood the test of time. That’s why I call him a leader. He led until his very last day.”
Hlabangwane’s children expressed deep gratitude for his service and sacrifices.

“Every time our father went to work, we prayed for his safe return,” they said. “Now that he has retired, we need him home more than ever.”

Colonel Letloenyane also acknowledged the effort behind the farewell event.

“Thank you to all members who helped make this day a success. Your time and dedication are appreciated.”
Hlabangwane leaves behind a legacy of resilience, leadership, and loyal service to the SAPS and the community.
