Charmain Joubert brings new life to Alberton SPCA

Since joining the Alberton SPCA in May, new manager Charmain Joubert has already made a lasting impact through her dedication, experience and community partnerships.

Charmain Joubert officially joined the Alberton SPCA as a manager on May 1, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in animal welfare.

A qualified SPCA inspector, Joubert has dedicated her career to the SPCA movement, having served at Rooderport SPCA since 2003, moved to Kempton Park SPCA in 2014, and now leads the Alberton branch.

Her appointment has already made a noticeable difference. Described as compassionate, dedicated and hands-on, Joubert has uplifted the branch in a short space of time.

She is known for her friendly, hands-on approach, her deep compassion for animals and her willingness to help wherever needed.

“Charmain is our new manager. She started with Alberton SPCA on May 1. She is a qualified inspector and has been with the SPCA movement since 2004, and so has over 20 years’ experience in animal welfare and protection,” said Vonjia Buachop, chairperson of Alberton SPCA.

“She is a friendly, dedicated individual and committed to positively impacting the lives of animals and their caregivers. She has been a breath of fresh air for our society, with her positive attitude and willingness to assist the public and their animals that come to us.”

Since joining the Alberton SPCA, Joubert has introduced operational improvements, kept the premises clean and organised, and strengthened relationships with the public.

Her ability to connect with both people and animals is a key part of what makes her leadership so effective.

She has also played a critical role in mobilising community support through generous sponsorships and donations that have helped ease the financial pressures facing the organisation.

Thanks to her efforts, the following contributions have been secured:

• Watson Tyres sponsored tyres for the SPCA vehicles.

• KPV Signs and Graphics provided the new vehicle signage.

• Jetline printed the new operations manual.

• Bluegill Factory Store donated cleaning supplies.

• N T A C Car Wash Valet and Detailing provides weekly car wash services.

• Kempton Park SPCA donated fencing for the premises.

• The Pooch Parlour offers a free dog grooming service.

Each of these donations has helped the SPCA maintain a high standard while continuing to serve animals in need.
Joubert also encourages members of the public to get involved.

“Donating unwanted household goods to our charity shop helps cover our vet bills, phone lines, petrol and outreach work,” she explained.

Throughout her career, Joubert has worked as both an inspector and a manager, serving exclusively in Gauteng.

She completed her inspector training through the National Council of SPCAs and says the work requires deep emotional strength.

Reflecting on the changes she has witnessed in animal welfare, she said, “Cruelty has escalated over the years. You have to stay focused on the outcome you want to achieve. This work is emotionally and physically demanding, so you must have a real passion for it. I have learned that when it gets overwhelming, step back and reflect on why you started.”

Her vision for Alberton SPCA is forward-thinking and community-focused.

“We want to be more proactive. Education and sterilisation are top priorities. The more people we can reach and teach, the more animals we can help in the long run.”
