Update: Family grieves after Katlehong man dies in Heidelberg Road accident
Thomas Fyson Nazombe’s funeral will be held in his home country of Malawi.
The family of Thomas Fyson Nazombe is devastated after losing their brother in a tragic accident on Heidelberg Road on October 14.
On October 16, family representative Patrick Nazombe spoke to the Alberton Record about the news.
“At around 10:00, I got a call from a family member telling me that Fyson had passed on. I was in town at the time and could not believe what I was hearing. They sent me a photo of the scene and I went crazy. I did not know what to do,” he said.
The family first became aware of the accident when Fyson’s workplace tried to contact him after he did not report for duty.

“My niece said they were informed by his workplace that he did not show up. They tried to reach him and were then told that a person had been hit by a truck. They rushed there and found it was him,” Patrick explained.
Patrick described Fyson as a quiet and kind-hearted person. “Everybody says he loved people. Since 2021, there has not been a time he has fought with anyone. Fyson was a quiet person.”
His employer, Nur Nobi Shemul, praised him as a dedicated and reliable worker. “He was a very good guy. He worked for us for three years.”
The truck driver has spoken with the family, but, according to Patrick, has not offered assistance. “I asked him for his employer’s contact details and he said he would give them to me, but I am still waiting. He said the company is based in Sasolburg. When I mentioned that the body is at Germiston Mortuary and we want to move it to a private mortuary, he said there was nothing he could do.”
Fyson, who lived in Katlehong, was on his way to work in Alberton CBD when the accident occurred. He leaves behind siblings and two children.
His funeral will take place in his family’s home in Malawi, with the date yet to be set. His mother is from South Africa, and his father is from Malawi.
Community members and friends have expressed grief and shared memories of Fyson’s kindness. One friend, More Morena, said, “He was like a brother to me. He was very good-hearted and always looked out for others. The shop will no longer be the same without him, and we will forever cherish the moments shared with him. Fly high, Fyson.”
