Deadly N12 Comaro on-ramp crash causes major morning backup
Two people were killed and three injured, and traffic remains congested from just after the Kliprivier off-ramp.
Emergency services in Ekurhuleni responded to a fatal crash in the early hours of November 17, amid heavy downpours across the city.
The collision occurred at around 04:05 on the N12 Comaro on-ramp, eastbound.
Maswati Mdluli, media and liaison officer for the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services, said, “Our teams responded promptly despite the wet conditions. We urge motorists to remain cautious on the roads, as visibility may be poor during ongoing rainfall.”
When fire and rescue teams arrived, they found that two vehicles, a sedan and an SUV, were involved. Sadly, the driver of the sedan and one passenger from the SUV were declared dead on the scene. The jaws of life were used to free one of the bodies from the wreckage.
Three other occupants were transported to hospital. One patient was in critical condition, while two others were in serious condition. Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services was contacted to remove the deceased bodies, and the EMPD remained on scene to continue with the investigation.
Traffic remains heavily backed up from just after the Kliprivier off-ramp as authorities work to clear the scene.

Heavy rains continue to pour in the city, contributing to poor visibility and slippery surfaces during emergency response operations.
Mdludi added, “We encourage everyone to be patient and tolerant on the roads. Safety remains our priority, and the City of Ekurhuleni will stay on high alert and ready to respond to all emergencies.”
