Angry mob attacks suspected criminal after allegedly robbing schoolchildren
The robbery attempt happened in an area known for being a crime hotspot, where criminals target school learners travelling to school.
An angry mob of people attacked a suspected criminal after he tried to rob schoolchildren in an incident that happened on February 7.
The robbery attempt happened on Ethiopia Street, in Palm Ridge.
The suspected robber felt the wrath of the mob after his accomplice fled with what is believed to be a toy gun.
“We responded to a reported incident of robbery involving school children, where the community apprehended one individual while his accomplice escaped with a toy gun, resulting in the detained individual facing consequences from the public,” said DA Champ Security in a statement.
Edenpark SAPS took over the scene, and emergency medical services were called.
Before the incident took place, a concerned parent had taken to Facebook warn members of the public about robbery incidents in the area targeted at school learners.
“We have a problem, and it has been a while now. Next to Wynkwaard Street are churches where kids are targeted and robbed.”
After the attack by the mob, he was left with a swollen lip, a swollen eye, and a bloodied jersey.
