WATCH: Residents urged to be vigilant amid vehicle crashes on Alberton road
Camera footage obtained by the Alberton Record shows a White vehicle crashing into a wall at a property near what a resident describes as a ‘notorious’ curve.
Residents of Alberton are urged to be vigilant and maintain appropriate speed limits when driving on Second Avenue in Florentia, Alberton.
A resident describes the road as a ‘notorious nightmare’.
“People driving from the mini-circle on Second Avenue and Braun Road, towards Florentia, must be very careful of the curve located about 300m from the circle. In February, a White VW Polo flew into my property’s wall after passing the notorious curve. Similar incidents have continued happening since then,” said Dewald van Vreden, who lives near the curve.

Van Vreden said: “I think motorists should drive at low speeds from the circle until they pass the curve. However, I think appropriate warning signs would help motorists drive carefully.”
Reports released by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) identify driver error, including speeding, as a primary cause of crashes and incidents on public roads.

The RTMC also highlights poor infrastructure as a contributing factor, including potholes, poor road surfaces and inadequate night-time lighting.
For Van Vreden, the message is simple: “Be careful when driving on Second Avenue. Drive slowly and be extra vigilant.”
