SAPS, Sky City residents unite to tackle crime at community meeting

Sky City residents and Kliprivier SAPS met at the Sky City Mall Taxi rank to discuss crime trends, recent arrests and ways to strengthen community-police cooperation in the fight against crime.

Sky City residents gathered at the Sky City Mall taxi rank on the evening of February 11 for a community engagement meeting aimed at strengthening crime prevention efforts and reinforcing cooperation between the SAPS and the community.

The meeting, held at 19:00, brought together residents and members of Kliprivier SAPS to discuss crime concerns affecting the area.

Proceedings began with an opening prayer led by a community member, setting a respectful and unified tone for the discussions.

The engagement created a platform for residents to share their experiences and raise concerns about crime in Sky City. Community input played a key role in identifying crime hotspots and guiding police operations in areas that required attention.

Warrant Officer Ramaboka, the police station’s operations commander, outlined the purpose of the meeting and presented an overview of current crime trends in the precinct.

He also provided feedback from the previous engagement session and reported on progress made in response to issues previously raised.

Ramaboka confirmed the SAPS arrests in connection with motor vehicle robbery incidents and river robbery cases.

He further reported a decrease in theft of motor vehicles in the area, attributing the improvement to targeted operations and increased cooperation from residents.

Kliprivier SAPS Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel LJ Mofokeng also addressed attendees, presenting updated crime statistics and emphasising the importance of ongoing vigilance, prompt reporting of incidents, and sustained collaboration between SAPS and the community.

The police reiterated that effective crime prevention was a shared responsibility.

Continued information sharing, active participation and strong partnerships between residents and law enforcement remained essential in maintaining safety in Sky City.

Feedback and insights gathered during the meeting will inform operational planning and resource deployment in the Kliprivier policing precinct.

The SAPS has committed itself to maintaining regular engagement sessions with the community to ensure concerns are addressed and progress is communicated.

Residents who could not attend the meeting may contact the Kliprivier SAPS station to share their input.
