Inside Report with Basch: Benefiting from a global market.

Last week I had an opportunity to meet Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, as well as a host of local and international business men and women from around the globe.

JT Foxx, the world number one wealth and business coach, hosted his signature event, Mega Partnering Africa, at the Sandton Convention Centre, drawing in successful entrepreneurs from around the world. I was fortunate enough to get a seat at the prestigious event and I must say I was awe-struck by the quality of the speakers, which included our deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa, Robert Gumede and young entrepreneur Michael Eilertsen.

While being in awe the thought struck me just how small the world has become thanks to technology. It also occurred to me just how small our thinking is as business owners here in South Africa. The trend is considering the market just in our neighborhood or city, but the opportunities for South African products and services just on the African continent are staggering.

Take Michael Eilertsen, a young entrepreneur who has created an exclusive lifestyle brand called Live out Loud, which boasts brands such as Cartier, Aston Martin and McLaren and hosts extremely popular invitation only events. Michael has taken his concept global through a revolutionary new concept in brand awareness and position, putting South African Entrepreneurs firmly on the map.

I look at him and ask myself, if he can why can’t I? Surely the difference between a good idea and a great one is exposure? Well, I for one am taking a long hard look at the Global Market place and internet marketing because, as it turns out, South African entrepreneurs are highly regarded in this space; one needs only think of aerospace giant Elon Musk who too is a South African.

So my tip for the week is think bigger and strive for a global footprint, because today the world is a small place filled with big opportunities.
