Alberton mother-daughter duo share trophy legacy at Laerskool Orion

Liané Kruger follows in her mother Carla’s footsteps, winning the Best Female Senior Athlete trophy at their Alberton alma mater.

In a display of athletic prowess, Liané Kruger, a Grade Six learner at Laerskool Orion, has followed in her mother’s footsteps.

She won the same trophy her mother, Carla Kruger, earned years ago at the same school when it was still named Laerskool Willem Cruywagen.

Liané, passionate about athletics and netball, competed in the Gauteng Provincial Championship, where she showcased her talent and determination.

Her performance earned her the trophy for best female senior athlete. For her, the win was a personal victory and a continuation of the legacy of athletic excellence running in her family.

The trophy is a symbol of excellence in athletics, and grandparents Tommy and Sylvie Ogden sponsored the trophy while Carla was in primary school, where she received it. Now, years later, Liané received it.

The Ogdens were proud to hand over the same award once a testament to their daughter’s achievements.
Carla shared, “I am proud of her for naturally taking over my athletic legacy. Since Liané was in Grade One, her teachers who knew the background she comes from ensured they helped harness her talent.”

This achievement is a full-circle moment for their family. “I remember when I won the trophy, and now seeing my daughter hold it is just incredible. I’m thrilled to see her passion for athletics shine through,” said Carla.

As the young athlete reflects on her accomplishments, she remains grounded and focused on her goals.

“I’m grateful for all the support from my family, coaches and teachers. It inspires me to continue working hard and striving for more. I’m excited to see what’s next. I hope to compete at the SA’s and win a medal,” said Liané.

With the same passion that drove her mother to excel, Liané is on her way to carving out her path of athletic excellence, leaving a mark on her school’s history.
