It was a proud moment for Hoërskool Marais Viljoen when one of their learners took part in Cricket South Africa’s U19 TAP (Talent Acceleration Programme) camp.
The camp formed part of the selection process for the SA U19 team that will compete against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and in the 2026 U19 World Cup.
Govender sat out on the first day of the three-match trials but made a strong impression in the remaining two games.
On day two, he scored an impressive 94 runs off 106 balls in a brilliant innings. On the final day, he added an unbeaten 15 runs from 19 balls, rounding off his contribution with another solid batting performance.
Despite his strong showing, Govender was not selected for the final SA U19 team for the matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
However, he was selected for the SA U19 Invitational Team, who played against Bangladesh in Pretoria – a recognition of his talent and potential.
Govender batted at number three and scored 31 runs, a responsible innings that helped stabilise the team’s batting lineup.
“Once again, Jaden showcased his skill and composure against international opposition. He continues to grow as a promising young cricketer, and his hard work, consistency, and positive attitude are sure to open many more doors for him. We are incredibly proud of you, Jaden,” said Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School in a statement.
