Failed getaway ends in arrest after foiled TV theft in Alberton
Alarms trigger quick response leads to recovery of stolen television in Alberton.
A quick response from security and community members led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen television following an attempted robbery on Voortrekker Road, Alberton, on August 18.
CPS Security received multiple panic activations from a business premises after suspects entered, posing as potential buyers.
While engaging with the owner, the suspects allegedly distracted him and then attempted to flee with a flat-screen television.
Community members immediately pursued the suspect.
Through a joint effort, the suspect was apprehended and CPS Security detained him on scene until Alberton SAPS arrived.
The television was also successfully recovered and returned.
During the investigation, it was established that the suspects had a getaway vehicle parked around the corner, which authorities subsequently located.
Alberton SAPS attended the scene and took the suspect into custody for further investigation and processing.
“’We continue to investigate the matter, including the role of any additional suspects linked to the getaway vehicle,”’ said Warrant Officer Petse of the Alberton SAPS.
