Business joins forces with charity

The Buddhist Centre in Kensington and City Properties are feeding the homeless in the inner city.

They have set up a soup kitchen where they feed homeless people every Tuesday. The Buddhist Centre is situated on Floss Street in Kensington and has a number of volunteers who help prepare the food on Tuesdays, before the food is taken to the inner city in the afternoons. The centre receives donations from City Property in Pretoria and views it as a way of giving back to the community.

The idea of a soup kitchen was suggested by the Head of Department at City Properties, Mrs Heidi Hertz. She researched various charities and was impressed with the work Rokpa charity. Rokpa is a Tibetan word for help or to serve.

“City Property has always believed in giving back to the community. Once a year each department gets the opportunity to support a charity of their choice,” said Mrs Heidi Hertz, the Head of Strategy Operations at the company.
