Police foil attempted vehicle theft

Police officers were on patrol when they saw two men trying to force open the door of a vehicle parked on the street.

Two men have been arrested for the attempted theft of a motor vehicle in Yeoville.

The incident occurred at the corner of Hopkins and Joe Slovo Drive.

“Police officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed two men trying to force open the door of a vehicle parked on the street,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

The EXPRESS previously reported in the October 1 edition on the number of smash-and-grab incidents on the road and warned motorists to be aware when driving, especially during peak hours in the morning and in the afternoon.

“The officers searched them and found equipment used in vehicle thefts such as jamming devices, a remote control and a system used to deactivate vehicle tracking systems.

“The suspects were detained at the Yeoville SAPS and are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Const Malatji.
