Armed man shot and killed by JMPD officers

It was later found that the man was wanted for a shooting at a nearby club.

An armed man was shot and killed by officers from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) in Jeppestown on Monday.

“The officers were conducting a routine stop and search when they noticed a man walking past with a firearm.

“When he was told to stop, the man dropped the weapon. As he picked it up officers shot him,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for the JMPD.

The man ran a short distance before be collapsed.

He was later pronounced dead.

It was later found that the man was wanted for a shooting at a nearby club.

“The deceased was thrown out of the club for misbehaving and had shot at a guard, who managed to duck the bullet,” said Sup Minnaar.

“An internal and external investigation is underway,” said Sup Minnaar.
