Exciting times ahead for Helping Angels

There are exciting times ahead for the Kensington-based non-profit organisation called the Helping Angels.
The organisation has been overwhelmed by the response they received from residents and local businesses following an article published in the EXPRESS.
The Helping Angels have been able to change the life of 19-year-old Conrad Koortzen, who now works for the organisation.
“I have been here for the last six weeks. Danie found me in the Johannesburg CBD, near Park Station. I’m a recovering drug addict and he took me in. I was in such a bad state, my family do not recognise me,” said Conrad.
He said he was given clothes, food and a roof over his head.
“I stay here because I want to be here. It is part of the healing and healing means talking about things. It is a choice to get out of the darkness,” said Conrad.
Mr Danie Roode, who is part of the Angels, said it is important for people not to be a victim of their past.
“Healing means talking. It is important to give meaning to one’s life. Conrad is only 19 years old, he has his whole life ahead of him,” said Mr Roode.
More news is that the organisation will be partnering with world record holder, long-time Aida survivor and activist Mr Andre van Zyl.
“Andre will attempt to break the world record when he spends 60 hours in a car. This attempt will be held at a local shopping centre, where people will be asked to donate food and clothing. We are still finalising the details of the event and Andre is excited about it,” said Mr Roode. The Helping Angels can be contacted on 011 074 8251 or 011 075 2724.
