Col Kevin Williams gets knighted
Colonel Williams could have chosen to be knighted in the United Kingdom but he elected to have this honour performed within his community.
An Investiture ceremony for the Order of St John took place at the Bedfordview Methodist Church on Saturday, August 2.
Colonel Kevin Williams was promoted to Knight by the Prior of the Order, the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus Of Cape Town.
This ceremony was as a result of Colonel Williams having been recognized by the Order of St John for outstanding service.
The Sovereign Head of the Order is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Colonel Williams could have chosen to be knighted in the United Kingdom but he elected to have this honour performed within his community. The Investiture ceremony took place at 6pm with the participation of Archbishop Tutu as Prior.
The Sword of the Order, the symbol of the temporal jurisdiction of HM Queen Elizabeth II, was held aloft by Archbishop Tutu to touch the shoulder of Colonel Williams and thereby pronounce him a Knight of the Order of St John.
