Bedfordview water crisis: Rand Water unable to fill reservoirs

'Water shedding is now a must.'

Bedfordview residents should brace themselves for the week ahead as the water crisis deepens.

This morning residents woke up to the news that Rand Water was unable to fill the Signal Hill and Malvern East reservoirs overnight.

Ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys said some of the water tankers brought in by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) were empty.

“This is very frustrating for residents. I tell them where the tankers are and upon their arrival there is nothing,” she said.

Clr Humphreys said residents should prepare themselves for the week ahead. “It is going to be challenging. I’m told it will get worse before it gets better,” said Clr Humphreys.

EMM announced via it’s Facebook page that water shedding will be implemented from 8pm this evening.

“In consultation with Rand Water officials, EMM has decided to do everything possible to reduce water usage in order to improve reservoir levels. Water shedding is now a must,” reads the statement.

Water will be restored tomorrow between 6am and 10am.

It will be closed again from 10am till 2pm and then opened from 2pm to 8pm.

Details will follow as updates become available.
