The brains behind CANSA’s marketing
"It is amazing to have a job that changes people's lives. It is empowering to see how the journey makes cancer survivors strong in the end."
Have you ever wondered who writes the copy on the pamphlets handed out by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)?
Ever asked yourself who puts together the infographics and press releases for the organisation’s regional offices?
Well, meet Ms Esti Lindner, the face behind the marketing and communications at CANSA’s head office based in Bedfordview.
The NEWS caught up with Ms Lidner, who shared the impact the organisation has in the lives of communities affected by cancer.
Ms Lidner joined the non-profit organisation in 2010 as a community mobiliser.
“I worked on ground level, serving patients and their families. In 2012 I moved to head office to do marketing,” said Ms Lidner.
Asked what the highlights of her job are, Ms Lidner said seeing the difference made in people’s lives through CANSA’s education programmes was one of them.
“It is amazing to have a job that changes people’s lives,” she said.
The mother of one is also responsible for hair donations.
“Members of the community donate their hair to us and we send it to wig makers who then make wigs for cancer patients.
“It is one of the best feelings in the world to be able to provide wigs to patients who have lost their hair during treatment and don’t feel as beautiful as they did before treatment,” said Mrs Lidner.
She said although mothering takes up most of her time, she makes time to play netball once a week.
Come December 2015, CANSA will launch its Sun Smart campaign.
“This is when we encourage people to be safe in the sun and to also take care of their skin. We also want to raise awareness on albinism in communities,” said Ms Lidner.
She said the organisation had made it possible for people with albinism to have access to good quality, high SPF sun screen.
“They are now able to go to any clinic and get themselves sunscreen,” said Ms Lidner.
