Residents relieved as work begins

He said the contractors are making progress and should be finished soon.

The City of Ekurhuleni has begun to restore the state of John Avenue in Bedford Park.

The NEWS reported last week that residents were calling on the powers that be to address the water leak and sinkhole along the road.

Following a query by the NEWS to the COE, spokesperson Mr Themba Gadebe said the municipality has cut down the blue gum tree and a contractor has started with the repair of both the water leak as well as the broken sewer pipe.

He said the contractors are making progress and should be finished soon.

When the NEWS visited the area last Wednesday, the sinkhole has since been closed and contractors are working on the water leak further along the same road.

Residents said they were relieved that work had begun to address the condition of the road.

At the time of going to press, it was unclear when the contractors would complete the work.
